If you are reading this, one of the best things you can do is fit 10,000 istighfar into each day. (This is what I am aiming for).
And (commanding you): “Seek the forgiveness of your Lord, and turn to Him in repentance, that He may grant you good enjoyment, for a term appointed, and bestow His abounding Grace to every owner of grace (i.e. the one who helps and serves needy and deserving, physically and with his wealth, and even with good words). But if you turn away, then I fear for you the torment of a Great Day (i.e. the Day of Resurrection).[Hud 11:3]
There are three main ways of achieving this:
- Doing it all after fajr and before your day begins. It takes 8 minutes to do 1000 istighfar and so 80 minutes to do 10,000. One hour 20 minutes of non stop istighfar each morning.
- If you are not a morning person and need to get rest for whatever reason you can fit 1000 after each Salah and do 5000 before bed/ in bed after Isha. This means your sunnah time after Salah will be prolonged by an extra eight minutes. This may be difficult if you are someone who has to pray at work.
- There is also the option of doing 5000 after fajr (40 minutes) and 5000 before bed (40 minutes).
- Lastly you can freestyle all these above methods and tweak them as well as incorporate the dead time you have such as commuting to and from work or whilst running mindless errands. You can use a dhikr counter for this to get an accurate number.
Happy istighfar journey and may your dreams come true, ameen 🤲🏾.
